Holistic Time

wood hands Mudra, glass lens, lithograph

26x 22,5x 8 cm

£ 6.000,00 (+ VAT)

Under a formal point of view, the artwork is divided in three parts: the bottom is a '800 lithography representing a young bourgeois, keeping a hidden dog in her arms. The intermediate level is composed by a wooden sculptural hands keeping a Buddhist Mudra. The fingers hold glass optical lens in various sizes.
The entire piece shows an exceptional dynamism: the image melds with the sculptural hands through the lens.
The lens show the same sculpture under different perspectives, as a symbol of the complexity of the points of view.
The variety of observation is close to the olistic philosophy, according to which "the proprieties of a system cannot be explained exclusively through its single components because the functional sum of the parts is always greater than the sum of the performances of each of the part".
The idea that everything could be perceived and faces taking into consideration multiple points of view is part of the Eastern philosophy, considering also the Western materiality (litography, hands, lens).
The intersection between East and West melts in this piece, creating a metaphoric link to the union of different cultures.

Lapo Simeoni (1979) studied at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London and currently lives and works in Berlin.

Through the use of recycled materials, furnitures, collages, paintings, photography, books and objects, he reconstructs narrations on the relationship between man and consumerism, thanks to an extensive process of transformation of materials, changing their original function. The artist works with images between past and present - photographs of monuments, logos and symbols of consonance, from old magazines, contemporary advertising and ancient artefacts or forgotten household objects. Then, Simeoni alters images and objects found by assembling and deconstructing, to develop a new vision of time and social transformation entirely ascribable to the contemporary.
